Nagoya was never supposed to be one of the main destinations of my Japan trip. I originally planned to spend two days there largely because of Ghibli Park, and almost treated the city as little more than a convenient stop between Tokyo and my next destination.

It turned out to be one of the surprises of the journey.

My latest travel feature for Universal Traveller follows those 48 hours through Nagoya Castle, Sakae, local food and shopping, and a full day exploring all five areas of Ghibli Park. The article grew directly out of my Japan Field Notes — but this time, the story has found a home beyond my own website.
